Peer review policy

Model

Most article types receive single-blind peer review by at least two reviewers. Some types (for example Reviews and AI & Software Notes) are double-blind: author identities are hidden and document metadata is removed. Interesting Images, Letters and Editorials receive editorial review.

Process

1. Automated technical check (limits, de-identification, declarations, a verified author).
2. Desk review by the handling editor.
3. External review (14 days by default, with reminders).
4. Decision: accept, minor or major revision, or reject.
5. Production, author proof approval and publication.

Reviewers

Reviewers declare conflicts, keep manuscripts confidential and never upload them to external AI tools. Every completed review is recognised, with a reviewer certificate for every five reviews.
